Does Your ABB Lighting Inverter Need to be Replaced?

Ensuring the longevity of your ABB lighting inverters involves scheduled maintenance and repairs in compliance with NFPA 70 standards. In many cases, replacing the lighting inverter's battery suffices to restore full operation, with the replacement batteries matching the number, type, ampere-hour, and voltage of the original ones.

However, there are instances where ABB lighting inverters may need replacement, especially if additional emergency lighting, signage, or devices have been added to the system. In such cases, it's crucial to assess the new total power load of all connected devices and match the requirements to the appropriate size of the lighting inverter for a minimum of 90 minutes of emergency backup power.

Central Lighting Inverter as Backup Power

Central lighting inverters offer diverse backup power solutions tailored to your devices. Serving as centralized units, they provide backup power to all emergency lighting systems within the building. These systems offer single-phase power for simpler devices like appliances and three-phase power for more power-intensive devices. The central lighting inverter functions automatically in the event of a power outage.

Benefits of ABB Emergency Lighting Inverters

ABB lighting inverters cater to diverse industries with a broad market selection of various sizes, ensuring compatibility with all lighting systems, including LEDs and HIDs. Centralizing your emergency lighting inverters simplifies maintenance and repair services, streamlining the process as workers only need to focus on one system rather than checking and changing batteries for each individual emergency lighting device.

Specifications of ABB Lighting Inverters

ABB offers a range of single-phase lighting inverters from 500VA to 16.7KVA and three-phase products from 4.8KVA to 50KVA.

The ABB Three Phase (
3FTC) lighting inverter, UL924 approved, utilizes IGBT/PWM technology, ensuring a true sinusoidal output with low distortion. It includes a standard 10-year maintenance-free battery, 90-minute full load discharge, and self-diagnostic capabilities for easy monitoring.

ABB's single-phase inverters (
FTC, IPS, and Compact) also use IGBT/PWM technology, providing a true sinusoidal output with overload capability. The fully automatic charger, 10-year maintenance-free battery, and self-diagnostic features with LED indicators ensure comprehensive monitoring.

The
ABB Mini Inverter, with 250W capacity or higher, supports load shedding during outages, accommodating up to 20 daisy-chained fixtures with a 12V sealed maintenance-free battery for 90 minutes of emergency operation.

The
ABB High Capacity Mini Inverter, UL 924 approved, offers a high-efficiency pure sine wave inverter, temperature-compensated charger, and replaceable fuse protection. With a three-year warranty, it provides 90 minutes of emergency power, supporting daisy-chaining up to 20 fixtures per RTS, with one RTS per circuit (ordered separately).

Electrical supplies for homes and businesses commonly use single-phase alternating current (AC). This alternating current works with most appliances, simple office equipment, lighting, and other devices. Yet for large companies with complex equipment and in many other countries, equipment relies on three-phase alternating current. There are some key differences, advantages, and disadvantages when comparing single-phase vs three-phase power. Understanding these differences will allow you to select the right one for your company.

A lighting inverter system is made up of it’s power conditioning component, inverter components, charging, and the backup runtime component which are batteries. The UL 924 compliance code requires that 90 minutes of battery minimum are provided to all exit sign routes. This 90 minute runtime can only pass it’s minimum test by having well charged, healthy batteries.
